May 2007 marks SingTrain Academy 1st year of establishment in offering Certification Courses in the SPA and Beauty Industry. As we take stock of our humble achievements for the last one and a half year, we sincerely wish to thank our Training Partners, our Dedicated Trainers, Assessors and Supervising Assessors and our learned Students for their co-operation and pro-activeness which makes skills upgrading more accessible and interesting.

A group of Enthusiastic Professionals and "Would-Be Therapists" attended our Week-End Certificate In Chair Massage on 15 Dec 2007 . Training is conducted on Domestic Chair and Body Rocking….. Elbow Pressing….. Chopping….Kneading….. techniques were imparted on how to release the upper and lower back muscles to relieve strain on the head, stiff neck and shoulder, aching wrist, tense lower back etc.

It was a fun Saturday with LOTS OF RYTHMN AND LAUGHTER and of course a relaxed body and new skills set!! Well Done Trainer Kenny Lim and Guys!

Certificate In Chair Massage - Helps Desk Bound Personnel (15 Dec 2007)

Have you encountered Stiff neck, Aching Wrists, Tense Shoulders that feel as if someone folded them up. Anyone who has ever sat behind a desk all day will recognize the symptoms of workplace fatigue.

Our next Workshop on Chair Massage would help addressed the most office-related physical symptoms that can be attributed to lack of blood circulation, tight muscles caused by stress and sitting behind a desk all day, especially at a work station that is not ergonomically designed. Chair massage will helps counter the circulatory problems inherent with office work and provide an appreciated break for employees.

Training is conducted on domestic chair and massage techniques will be imparted on how to open up the back muscles relieves strain on the neck and provides a gentle respite for eyes usually glued to a computer monitor. This Health Giving workshop is specially organised in collaboration with Del-Care Edu Centre so that dads, mums, grandparents and child care centre professionals have a chance to learn the important skill of Baby Massage and Tui-na, as well as understanding how to overcome stress through Aroma and Music Therapy.

Bryan Gan, our Associate Consultant delievered a 2-hour briefing on Adopting Touch, Aroma & Music Therapy to enhance child immune system. He also shared several beauty and health tips with our participants and response from them was very favourable. Some even come prepared with "i" Weekly to obtain Bryan's Autograph!!

Our participants will continue with another 7-hour of training on Therapeutic Tuina with our Visiting Consultant, a Licenced TCM Physician on 24 Nov. Will keep with posted with more photos.

The Healing Practice of Thai Herbal Ball Compress Therapy dates back nearly 5,000 years, to an era when the knowledge of plants, including their effects through ingestion or application on the body, were painstakingly researched and then passed down from one generation to the next.

This herbal therapy was designed to relieve pain and inflammation. A selection of therapeutic herbs, including plai, ginger, turmeric and lemongrass, are wrapped in a muslin compress, steamed and then applied to the body in gentle pressing, circular and rolling movements.

The hot compresses are ideal for alleviating pain, stiff, sore or pulled muscles and ligaments, chronic back aches, arthritis, even skin conditions, migraines and chronic stress or anxiety.

Participants will learn hands-on techniques to relieve tension, fatigue, stimulate blood circulation, and restore vitality in the entire body through basic massage pressure points and herbal ball application.

INFANT AND CHILD MASSAGE/TUINA

FAMILY AFFAIR FOR KIDS, MUM AND GRAND-MA

It was a “ fun cum educational” day for parents and kids, especially the children…… enjoying soothing massages from our Trainer Penny Chew, their mum and grandma.

The 5-hour Workshop on Infant and Child Massage was filled with fun, laughter…. with kids running around the training studio after receiving their massage.

It was a good platform for parents/caregivers to promote bonding with their child through massage. Parents also learnt simple therapeutic techniques on managing their child fever, abdominal pain, convulsion, restlessness, maintaining general health and wellness etc.

Simple Steps for Infant & Child Massage (from 3 months to 1 year old)

Massage to Help Relieve Upset Tummy

Is your little one gassy or spitting up a lot after feedings? Try this massage technique. Before your baby eats, massage the entire stomach area, lightly yet firmly, in a clockwise direction.

Techniques:

(1) Use small amount of edible oil, as the baby's fingers will probably go into the mouth. Corn, vegetable or virgin olive oils are great. Do not use medicated oil.
(2) Facing the baby, start massaging with your fingertips, beginning below the ribs, from left to right.
(3) Use circular motions, or rainbow-shape strokes. Avoid genital area. This helps the digestion, and helps to pass the gas. (See illustration above)

Cautions :

Moving the gas can be painful, so be sure to massage slowly. This should help keep the food down, and with less discomfort. You can do this for a few minutes before each meal, and doing it before bed makes for a better night's sleep!
